Holiday party, gala, fundraiser, conference reception or summer picnic: tell us the room and the running order and we build the night around it. Soul, funk, disco, pop and rock from four decades, played by people who do this for a living.
We show up self-contained, read the room, keep the volume right for the part of the evening you are in, and get the floor moving when it is time. We answer every enquiry within 24 hours.
From load-in to last song
Before doors
We ask for the room about two hours before the first set. Load-in is around ninety minutes from the van door to soundcheck done, so we are set and checked before your guests arrive.
Cocktails and dinner
A lower-volume, smaller-format set from the soul and mid-tempo end of the book, so people can talk and the room still has a pulse.
Speeches and awards
We time the sets around your programme rather than the other way round, and MC lightly if you want it: welcoming the room, cueing toasts, telling people when the bar is closing.
The dance floor
Up to three hours of live music in two or three sets, with music in the breaks. Add our DJ and the floor stays full from doors to the last song.

The main event. Two or three sets of soul, funk, disco, rock and pop, built around your running order.
DJ for the evening
Before the first set, between sets and after the last song. The floor stays full from doors to last dance, with no second supplier to book.
PA and sound
A PA sized for the room, set up and run by us. The venue needs nothing.
Stage lighting
Lighting that makes the band a show, not a corner of the room.
Handled before you ask
- Insured. Cover Story carries liability insurance. A certificate of insurance is available on request for your venue.
- Self-contained. We bring the PA and the stage lighting sized for the room. For larger halls we are happy to work with the house system and their engineer.
- Space and power. A clear, level area of roughly 12 by 16 feet for the full band, and two dedicated 20-amp circuits within reach of the stage, on separate breakers from the caterer's kit.
- Outdoors. Yes, with cover for the band and the gear, a level dry surface, and power close to the stage.
- Paperwork. A signed agreement and a deposit hold the date. The balance is due before the event, so nobody handles money on the night.
- Where. Serving Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Everett and the Puget Sound region. Further afield is a conversation.

Planner questions
How many sets and breaks?
Most nights are two sets of around an hour, or three of forty-five minutes, with short breaks between them. Music keeps going in the breaks, and if you add our DJ the floor never goes quiet from doors to last dance. We time the sets around your speeches, cake and first dance rather than the other way round.
Can you play quieter for cocktail hour?
Yes. Cocktail hour and dinner get a lower-volume, smaller-format set drawn from the soul and mid-tempo end of the book, so people can talk. The full band and the full volume arrive when it is time to dance.
Do you bring your own PA and lights?
Yes. We provide the PA and the stage lighting, sized for the rooms we usually play, so a venue with no gear is not a problem. Everything runs through the one system, including the DJ if you add one. For larger halls and festival stages we are happy to work with the house system and their engineer.
How much space and power do you need?
For the full band, a clear, level area of roughly 12 by 16 feet works, and more is always welcome. Power-wise we need two dedicated 20-amp circuits within reach of the stage, on separate breakers from the caterer’s kit. Tell us about the room and we will confirm before the day.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Cover Story carries liability insurance. A certificate of insurance is available on request for your venue.
What are your rates?
It depends on four things: the size of the band, the date, how far we travel and how long you want us to play. A Saturday in June with the full band and three sets is not the same job as a Thursday in February with a trio for cocktail hour.
Send us the date and the shape of the night and we will send a quote within 24 hours. No obligation, and no chasing.
How far ahead should we book?
For a wedding or a holiday party, six to twelve months is comfortable. Summer Saturdays and December go first, so if you have a date in that window, ask early.
Shorter notice is fine when the date is open. Send the date and we will tell you straight away whether we can do it.
